Playback settings

Open the Windows Control Panel, and double click on the sound icon, this will open the Sound window. Make sure that the device your guitar's sound is played back to is set as the default playback device. To change it just highlight an item on the list and press the Set Default button, there should a green tick next to the item you selected. Now press the Properties button and check your levels are correctly set.
 

 
 Playback volume should be set high, and not muted. All other sliders below should be muted.
 



Record settings
Press the Recording tab and make sure that the device your guitar's connected to is set as the default playback device. To change it just highlight an item on the list and press the Set Default button, there should a green tick next to the item you selected. Now press the Properties button and check your levels are correctly set.
 


Set the volume as high as you can without it causing any signal clipping, and make sure the volume for the selected input is not muted.
